Trends and Factors-
A Factor is something we have no control over such as Terrorism, Natural Disasters and World Recession these are all things that we cannot stop but what we can react to. A Trend is
something that is fashionable and makes people want to do it or want to have it as they will want to stay in the latest trend.
Trends-
Increase in frequent holidays has become very popular over the years as now they have more time to take holidays and not just Domestic holidays, this happens because they have more flexibility within work hours. A law recently came out which meant working people could have a certain amount of days of work which they could go on holiday this will help tourism figures rise as more people will be travelling outbound instead of just Domestic tourism. Domestic holidays have also become very popular as it is cheap and easier to take a Domestic holiday to site see or to visit friends and family. As more people have decided to stay in their own areas when travelling recent statistics show that "staycations" have increased around the UK.
People have started to travel independently a lot more over the years, because of the media and TV that make it more attractive and appealing and show other sides to tourism that they can travel alone and dont have to travel in groups or with familys. This has made package holidays go downhill as they just decide when they want to go and only have to pay for their flights instead of transfers and luggage and all the rest of the ancillaries you need. The more people travel abroad alone the more confident they become with the surroundings and more likely go and see alot more than what they would do with familys. To help them with this there is always a Travel Guide available in most destinations that can help them find their surroundings and help them if they need anything and unsure where to find it.
Tourists have now started to travel within the UK rather than travelling abroad as it is less complicated than travelling abroad to another country. The new laws that have taken place in airports have caused too many complications for familys trying to get through, this is because of the amount of security checks they feel they need to do to stop any attacks like the 9/11 happening again. Also as there is a recession taking place many people whoa re working and getting a basic wage find it very hard to save up and pay to go abroad for a holiday and therefore look into finding a holidiay within the UK. This will help boost caravan parks such as Butlins or Haven.
Factors-
A factor like Terrorism for example the 9/11 affects Travel and Tourism as people are too scared to fly to certain countries because of both past and recent attacks, they also fear incase any other attack happen. Therefore the countries that don’t receive tourists end up losing money, this is because nobody will go. To help them rgain tourists they have to make sure they advertise new attractions and advertise their country. Airlines also have to advertise their business to try and make people book flights with them and convince them that they will be safe.
Natural Disasters like Tsunamis, earthquakes and floods have an effect on tourism as people will not be allowed to travel to that country as its unsafe and therefore that country will end up loosing money to help their economy. Recently in Japan 18months ago a Tsunami destroyed the majority of Japan therefore it was impossible for Tourists to visit as flights could not land there, but also there would be nothing for the Tourists to visit or see as everything got destroyed after the Tsunami. This will have a massive effect on Japans economy. This will have a negative effect on Japans economy as they will loose out on a massive amount of tourism untill the disaster is over and tourists areas ar back to normal and safe enough for tourists to visit again.
As we a currently in a triple dip Recession this now means that not a lot of people can afford to take an outbound holiday as they will not be able to afford one. This would also affect Tourism as people would not be able to visit abroad as they have no money to pay for flights and Accommodation. As the prices of flights to other countries have increased over the recent years this will have a slight decrease in the numbers of outbound travel, on the other hand because of this domestic tourism and "staycations" increase as its found cheaper to travel around the UK. Although "staycations" are very popular throughout the UK it has become a new trend to take "daycations" this is where families will go for a day out to somewhere such as Blackpool for the day.
The strength of the pound is another factor that changes a lot. This is because of the weak state of the UK economy, it is likely that the fortunes of the Pound could deteriorate in 2013/14 – especially against the dollar and currencies other than the Euro. This will cause a slight decrease in outbound travel as they are not going to be getting good exchange rates when changing their currency to travel overseas. The strength of the pound also has an effect on Domestic Tourism as well as Inbound Tourism as because of the weak pound people are choosing to travel to destinations where the currecy is the same, this also boosts staycations.
